REVEALED! Dampare led an intelligence team that apprehended the killers of a slain soldier.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, was personally involved in the intelligence work that led to the arrest of the slain soldier Imoro Sheriff's killers.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the IGP joined the operations on the grounds of Ashaiman to follow leads and tip-offs that led to the suspects' arrest on Friday.
"The Police have arrested the key suspects involved in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, the soldier who was found dead at Taifa Ashiaman on 4th March 2023," the police said in a social media post on Friday evening.
On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Imoro Sherrif, who was visiting Accra from Sunyani, was murdered in the Ashaiman township, according to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The military raid on March 7th
Dozens of military officers stormed Ashaiman in an operation that saw soldiers enter the town in trucks, as well as an armored car and a helicopter hovering above the town.
The exercise is said to be in response to the gruesome murder of a young soldier, Trooper Sherrif Imoro, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, by unidentified individuals.
Videos of the invasion shared across social media show various forms of assault being meted on residents by the rampaging officers who subjected some of the residents to severe beatings.
In a statement issued early on March 8, the Ghana Armed Forces admitted authorizing the raid, which resulted in the arrest of 184 people and the seizure of suspected illegal drugs.
They also acknowledged that excesses may have resulted in the swoop but did not apologize or commit to conducting an investigation.
On March 8, the first 150 suspects were released, and on March 9, Fix The Country movement convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor reported that the remaining 34 had also been released without charge.
Police Question Slain Soldier's Girlfriend
The Ashaiman Police have quizzed the devastated girlfriend of the murdered military man who was killed at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
The interrogation was conducted in an attempt to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Imoro Sherrif, a 22-year-old trumpeter in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band.
The police invited her, questioned her, and released her on self-recognized bail, according to DGN Online.
Confirming the interrogation, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey gave additional information to 3Fm that "So far it was only one person that was invited for questioning, the purported girlfriend of the deceased.
"According to the police, it appeared that the girl was also devastated by the whole situation; the guy was with her throughout the night until 2 a.m. when they left, only to wake up the next morning to learn about the problems on social media, She was devastated by the news.
"So, for the most part, it was the only person who was questioned right now. So we're waiting to see if the perpetrators will be apprehended."
Imoro Sherrif was laid to rest on March 9 at Accra's Military Cemetery, Burma Camp.
On Saturday, March 4, Imoro Sherrif was brutally murdered.
He was discovered in a pool of blood in Ashaiman and is suspected of being stabbed to death.
On Tuesday, the Military High Command authorized an intelligence-led operation to find the perpetrators of the crime.
In the course of the operation, several civilians reported of brutalities meted out to them as 184 persons were rounded up with 150 released and 34 persons have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service through the Military Police for further action.
