Black Stars centre-back Mohammed Salisu has emerged as a top target for Newcastle United, who are set to activate his £15million release clause.

Salisu, 23, is a key member of the Premier League side, with Southampton making 21 appearances for the Saints this season.

He was also a key member of the Black Stars team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where his stellar performance appeared to have caught the eye of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

As the Warblers try to secure a spot in this season's Champions League, they believe the Ghana defender can help bolster their defence if they qualify for Europe's top club competition.

This season, Southampton have not played at their optimal form and with relegation, Newcastle are hoping for a £15m bid for the player. Salisu, who joined The Saints from Real Valladolid in 2020, has just 18 months left on his contract and could be pressured to leave the club if relegated.
