Young girls should consider pursuing architecture as a field, according to female members of the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA).
They explained this by pointing out that although it was a common belief and preconception that the profession was dominated by men, women may also become architects.

Esi Adjorlolo, vice president of the GIA, offered the guidance at a workshop the organization sponsored to encourage children's interest in architecture in the nation, especially among young girls, in honor of International Women's Day.
Workshop
The goal of the program was to teach young people architectural abilities that would help them address some of the issues in their particular areas.
"Digital innovation and technology for gender equality" was the topic of the event.
The program was attended by about 50 students from the Calvary Methodist 1 and 2 schools, Gray Memorial School, Khairiyah Islamic Basic School, All Saint's Anglican Basic School, and Nii Amugi Basic Schools.
Initiative
Ms. Adjorlolo emphasized that architects needed to be supported with ongoing training as well as recognized for their concepts and innovation.
She claimed that a lot more external training, such as this, would result in a significant increase in the number of female architects. Architecture is one of the numerous professional disciplines that women are exploring.
According to her, the program offered a chance to teach young women to be courageous enough to pursue careers in engineering and architecture.
The workshop, Ms. Adjorlolo said, will study how to use architecture as a tool for national development and identify difficulties related to it.
"These young women have a very bright future since there are many female architects they can look forward to and because there will likely be many more women in architecture than there are now."
Therefore, she said, "I think for them the future is so bright with us all here mentoring."
She also urged the development of an educational system that would provide children a stage on which to share their original thoughts.
Commendation
Brenda Benedicta Attuquayefio, the Adabraka Circuit's School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), praised the GIA for its attempt to spark young girls' interest in engineering and architecture.
"In reality, looking at the environment, it is a means of issue solving." For our ladies, this is an eye-opener, really insightful, and enlightening, and I'm delighted I made my pupils available for this class.
"Our kids were able to identify some issues and then come up with a plan to fix them," she added.
She urged additional schools to make their students available for future sessions as a result.
