Developing the fashion business should be of national interest, according to Emmanuel Agyei Arthur, Corporate Communications Manager at Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL).
He claimed it was so because the sector could enable young people to work for themselves while also generating export revenue for the nation.
"I want to encourage the state to gain serious interest in fashion to develop self-employment since it has a lot of weight and export potential, and if all these things are formed effectively, I believe businesses will expand," he said.
He offered the counsel during the fourth Insight Fashion Training (IFT) graduation event, which was held in Kasoa in the Central Region.
Five students received certificates for successfully completing their programmes at the occasion, which marked their graduation.
dreadful statistics
Mr. Arthur pointed out that the fashion sector had the ability to boost jobs and help the nation's alarming unemployment rates.
"It was revealed for the first quarter that there were roughly 13.4 million unemployed persons, and by the third quarter of the following quarter, the figure had increased to 13.9 million.
The percentage was increased to 50% in the world month report on underemployment, which indicates that even when individuals are employed, they are underemployed, he said.
He urged the government and private investors to provide startup financing to young people who had learned expertise in fashion and other fields in order to lessen this.
Misconceptions
Mr. Arthur further challenged the youth to dispel the myth that technical or vocational education is only appropriate for those who lack intelligence.
"In our nation, people believe that if your mind is weak, you should attend a technical school, but I want you to state for the record that if your mind is weak, you cannot develop all of the things we are seeing today at this event.
It takes a great intellect to do it, therefore when you read about the likes of Georgio Amarnis and the rest, these are people who can conceptualise and build things from an abstract level that can become a reality and we wear," he said.
