Kennedy Agyapong, a candidate for president and member of parliament for the Assin Central district, has been accused of harassing businesses owned by him, although the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted this claim.
The GRA stated in a statement issued on Monday that audits of Agyapong's businesses were carried out as part of its responsibility to guarantee adherence to best practices and enhance compliance.
Agyapong made the declaration in response to a media appearance in which he accused GRA officials of repeatedly harassing him by auditing his businesses without authorization.

The GRA disputed the particular claim of harassment at an Agyapong-owned plant that was still under construction, claiming that the audits were carried out to determine the worth of the imported items and their intended purpose.
The GRA reported that roughly thirty (30) comparable audits were done on other enterprises in January and February 2023 and that invoice inspection activities were escalated nationally in September 2022 to compel the production of VAT invoices.
As part of its attempts to increase income, the authority plans to increase the exercise of invoice inspection beginning in April 2023.
How the MP spoke
In an interview with Sompa FM, the Assin Central Member of Parliament claimed that since the beginning of the year, members of his party have been conducting a witch hunt against him and that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has been used as a tool to intimidate and thwart several of his business endeavors.
In a statement, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) said, "The NAM has a long history of promoting the use of recycled materials in its products. I must add that they cannot terrify me with the system since I have started enterprises under the previous five presidents. I never experienced any of this bullying.
"My business will never be destroyed by the Ghana Revenue Authority because I will fight. Because that steel mill alone will require 1000 jobs, I will advocate for the young "said he.
Kwame Agyapong is a loudmouth who wants to run for president, therefore you are going there to damage my business because of that.
He also implied that he will reveal suspected corruption at the GRA.
"I vow to God that the Ghana Revenue Authority cannot collapse my firm, whether they are auditing it or trying to shut it down because I will fight,"
The GRA asked the public to bring any claims of official corruption to the GRA's administration for resolution.
The authority also reaffirmed its preparedness to see Mr. Agyapong and other taxpayers.
