3news.com is able to confirm that Sailor Gabriel Ajigodi, who was at the helm when his boat capsized on Volta Lake on Saturday morning, is currently under the control of the police.
At the Ada Foah Police Station, where he is currently being held, he is being questioned about the dangerous journey. The boat carrying mourners from Azizanya to Azizakope capsized on the Volta Lake, killing five people and leaving several others missing.
After the disaster, area Assembly member Daniel Adzakpa informed TV3 that the boat was overloaded.
Over sixty people were on board the boat, which was supposed to hold 25 people.
Some survivors claim that they told Gabriel Ajigodi about the overcrowding and begged him to bring them back to their boarding point.
Mary Donuki, 22, told TV3's Joseph Armstrong on Saturday that they asked to be returned to Azizanya when they realized the load was too much.
It is said that the sailor denied the pleas and promised to get them safely to Azizakpe.
However, the catastrophe occurred during the journey.
Mary Donuki lost her only child, who was 1 1/2 years old.
A search party is still in the area looking for any remaining survivors.

Twenty-two-year-old Mary Donuki told TV3‘s Joseph Armstrong on Saturday that when they realised that the load was too much they asked to be returned to Azizanya.
The sailor is said to have ignored the pleas and said he would take them to Azizakope safely.
The disaster, however, occurred mid-journey.
Mary Donuki lost her only one-and-a-half-year baby.
There is still a search party in the area striving to locate some more survivors.
