Sonnie Badu, a well-known Ghanaian gospel singer who lives in the United Kingdom, has asked the Ghana Football Administration (GFA) to let Christian Atsu's death change their mindset and outlook.

He said in a Facebook post on March 18 that it was unfortunate that the late Atsu was referred to as the "Messi of Ghana" after his death but retired early from the Black Stars, the senior national team. "Dear GFA, Chris_atsu has been put to rest for good. However, allow me to say this: Let this be a shift in mindset and attitude.... I know our @ghana_fa_official administrator will do things any other way

"I heard in late meetings individuals saying that he was the Messi of Ghana… Well you all resigned him speedy - whiles Messi is as yet playing the World Cup… Messi is 35 and Astu was 31.

"Allow us to figure out how to cause players to feel significant while they are invigorated. We shouldn't trust that something will happen to them before we assume control over their burial service costs what not.

“We are aware that the majority of players sustain injuries while on international duty, so it comes as no surprise that they lose their positions in both their club teams and national teams.... Because of this, players like @thomaspartey5 prefer to play for clubs rather than national teams. @jakaminko was at his best when he was injured while playing for Ghana, and everyone suddenly forgot about him. He ended up playing for a low division Turkish team, where he was fighting for the money he owed. “The clubs know that these low division teams in Turkey are called playing to survive and keep fit, so they frustrate players.

He stated, "I heard the tribute read from the club, he told the coach he either plays or goes to see his family." "If one could only turn back time," he said, "it shows how committed he was to his career." "Champ, you died a hero and you scored your last goal... it cannot be forgotten by the club...... rest well. Your send off was beautiful..."

More than a dozen dignitaries, including sportsmen and entertainment industry icons, joined the public and Atsu's family in a state-assisted funeral amid a heavy security presence yesterday, March 17. A sea of Ghanaians clad in traditional red-and-black mourning attire thronged the State House forecourt to pay their last respects to the fallen hero, Christian Atsu Twasam, 1992-2023.

In the end, he was buried in Dogobome, his hometown.
