Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has acknowledged that he is really worried about Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Arteta provided an injury report on several players while speaking on the club's official website.
Takehiro Tomiyasu, who hobbled off against Sporting CP on Thursday, was one of them.
The Japanese full-back stretched awkwardly and appeared to be in a lot of discomfort.
Early on in the game, he was unable to continue and was replaced by Ben White.
Together with William Saliba, Tomiyasu was absent from the matchday squad yesterday and will be unavailable throughout the international break.
Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has recently acknowledged that Tomiyasu's most recent injury genuinely worries him.
The £20 million player has developed a few fitness issues while playing for The Emirates.
Uncomfortably, the Gunners let their lone other senior right-back depart the team in January for a loan.
When asked how serious Tomiyasu's wound was, Arteta responded, "We don't know; obviously the doctor is evaluating him.
"We've already had one evaluation, and they need another tomorrow, but it's not looking good, that much is certain.
"From the way I see Tomi, he doesn't exaggerate anything. He expressed immediate worry, and we share that concern.
Before the game, journalist Tom Canton predicted that Tomiyasu might miss the rest of the campaign.
For Arsenal, who depended on Ben White to stay healthy for the season's final 10 games, it would be a major setback.
Yesterday's final few minutes were covered by Thomas Partey because Arteta chose to rest the Englishman.
Cedric Soares was already below Tomiyasu in the hierarchy, so Arteta may now regret allowing him to leave Arsenal for Fulham.
The Portuguese defender would have at least given some comfort despite being highly unpopular at The Emirates.
Due to his versatility, Mikel Arteta values Tomiyasu as a key player.
Given that William Saliba also limped off against Sporting, he would have been inserted right into the starting lineup yesterday.
The 24-year-old will, however, have to watch from the sidelines as his teammates attempt to win a significant Premier League championship.
