Gareth Southgate insists he won't be replacing Rashford or Mount in England's squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Due to injury, Mason Mount of Chelsea and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United have been left out of England's squad to face Italy and Ukraine.
In Sunday's FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Fulham, Manchester United won 3-1, and Rashford played 83 minutes before being replaced by Fred due to injury.
After missing Chelsea's previous four games due to a pubic bone injury, Mount has also withdrawn.
Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, had acknowledged being shocked by Mount's selection when Southgate's team was unveiled.
As far as I know, he has never been accessible, said Potter.
He required some time for his injuries to heal, which has effectively eliminated him from competing for England. I'm not sure if that meant they needed some extra time to confirm that. I don't see any suspicious activity at all. Yet, from the standpoint of my choosing, he wasn't available over the weekend.
Nick Pope, the team's other injured goalie, has been replaced by veteran Spurs player Fraser Forster.
Rashford needed medical attention after fracturing his bone in Sunday's victory over Fulham, while Chelsea star Mount is still recovering from an injury.
Pope, who also has a slight injury, is not available.
23 players arrived at St George's Park on Monday in preparation for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy in Naples on Thursday and Ukraine in Wembley on Sunday. No additional replacements are anticipated.
Gareth Southgate was unable to restrain himself. The England manager's grin covered his entire face before he could even finish speaking. That's simply how Bukayo Saka makes you feel.
People begin to smile when they discover themselves acting in the manner that I just did, stated Southgate. Because, you know, that's what he delivers to you? You experience warmth. You have the impression of a wonderful person who joined the Arsenal squad when they weren't performing well and excelled. And now when they are competing for the crown, he is performing well once more.
When England plays Italy in this week's European Championship qualifying, Saka will receive his 25th cap. And he will do it while playing for one of the football team's most effective forward lines.
Since the World Cup, Saka has scored six goals and provided three assists. Harry Kane has 10 goals and one assist. Marcus Rashford has only contributed six assists and 19 goals since Qatar.
Southgate's hopes of ending his tenure as England manager with a trophy at the European Championship rest on these front three.
