The Brazilian has been sent off for the second time this season, which translates into a four-match ban.

He was sidelined in Man United's dramatic 3-1 win over Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals. And he will also be absent from the clashes with Newcastle, Brentford and Everton.

Prior to this season, Casemiro had never received a direct red card in his club career.

He has now conceded 2 goals in his last 3 appearances in the Premier League.

His first game was against Crystal Palace on 4 February when he put his hand on Will Hughes' throat.

Luckily for him, the three games he was banned for ended in time for him to play the Carabao Cup final. His second red is clearly justified after the shocking replays.

Casemiro was moved to tears by the referee's decision and also apologized to Alcaraz for his tackle before going into the tunnel.

Didier Deschamps admits disappointment when Varane retires

Didier Deschamps has expressed disappointment over Raphael Varane's retirement from international football, but the Frenchman has said he respects the Manchester United defender's decision.

Varane announced his retirement from international football last month, although he appears to be at his peak and is still two months away from his 30th birthday.

The 29-year-old's decision comes as a shock after he is seen as one of the main candidates to succeed Hugo Lloris as France captain after the goalkeeper's retirement.

Deschamps was asked about his vice-captain's retirement ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

"I try to put myself in his [Varane's] shoes," Deschamps said, according to RMC Sport. "He's thoughtful enough, calm enough, and he doesn't make such decisions overnight."

The Man United defender played a key role in France's journey to the World Cup final in Qatar

"It's not something I'm happy with, but it's everyone's situation that you can make such a decision. I respect him.

"There are very high demands in high-level football and it all depends on the age at which you start.

“Need causes fatigue, physical or psychological. "Every player has a path that can be different, some continue until they are 40, for others it can be more complicated."

Varane, who turns 30 next month, played every minute of the 2018 World Cup as the Blues lifted the trophy for the second time in their history.

He also played a key role in France's run to the final in Qatar last year, where the defending champions were beaten on penalties by Argentina.

Varane also won the Nations League with his country in 2021, when France came back to beat Spain 2-1 in the final.

It failed to win the European Championship when France failed in the 2016 final against Portugal.

Varane, who made 93 caps for the national team after making his debut in 2013, revealed a tight schedule as the reason for his retirement. Varane - who won the 2018 World Cup - said playing 'non-stop' took a toll on him

Deschamps set to decide on France's next captain for their Euro 2024 qualifying

“I gave it my all, both physically and mentally,” Varane said in an interview with Canal+. "But the highest level is like a washing machine, you play all the time and you never stop,

“We have an overloaded schedule and play non-stop. Right now I feel like I'm suffocating and the [Varane] player is engulfing [Varane] the man.

Deschamps, who was contracted to lead France to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in January, said he would make a decision on the captaincy in the coming days.

France will face the Netherlands in its first Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday, before taking on the Republic of Ireland on March 27.
