If Tottenham wants to sell Harry Kane this summer, they demand a £100 million upfront payment.

Kane could go to Manchester United, but Tottenham is keen to avoid selling to a domestic rival.

According to The Times, Tottenham hopes that by refusing to accept installment payments, United will be discouraged from making a move for the striker.

Kane's current Tottenham contract has little over a year left on it.

Tottenham is aware that United does not want to engage in protracted negotiations because it might cause their plans to enhance their assault to be delayed.

Tottenham turned down a £75 million, then £100 million, offer for Kane in 2021.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as potential destinations for the England captain.

Although Kane presently has 204 Premier League goals, Tottenham believes he would prefer to stay in England and surpass Alan Shearer's record of 260 goals.

With 271 goals for the club, Kane holds the record for most goals scored by a Spurs player, yet he has yet to win a championship.

Kane has not yet agreed to a new contract, so Tottenham does not believe they must move him this summer.

As an illustration, Tottenham let Christian Eriksen leave for Inter Milan with only six months left on his deal.

The future of Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who was harshly critical of his players after the 3-3 draw with Southampton in which his team squandered points while leading 3-1, is still up in the air.

The summer is the time for United to strengthen their assault and add a striker who can fully succeed Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite Marcus Rashford's outstanding play this season, United as a whole has struggled to score; they have 41 goals in the Premier League, compared to 66 for Arsenal and 67 for Manchester City.

If they are unable to sign Kane, they may turn to Victor Osimhen of Napoli as a backup plan. Benjamin Sesko of RB Salzburg is also a possibility.

Sesko has already committed to a £20 million transfer to RB Leipzig, but United might try to sabotage the transaction.
