Premier league match officials have been issued to find natural ways to pause matches ahead of Ramadhan for Muslim players or officials to break their fast in the holy month of Ramadan. Fasting begins this week Thursday and will last for 30days
Many of England best football players which includes Mohammed Salah of Liverpool, Mahrez of Manchester City, N’golo Kante of Chelsea among others are expected to be involved in this holy month of Ramadhan and therefore will fast. By abstaining from food, water or anything by mouth during the holy month of Ramadan They will need to break their fast once the sun sets. Players playing evening matches across the various divisions in English football will have a great impact of this holy month.
Match Officials by directions have been issued to allow or pause games naturally for Muslim sports men and women across all divisions of English football to take supplements, water or energy foods.
Before kick off match officials are encouraged to make enquiries about players who have fasted, and make a rough calculation of when the time will be due for them to break their fast. The FA and PGMOL have been contacted for their comments, suggestions and recommendations
Ramadhan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar and Muslim worldwide observe it as a month of fasting, prayer and reflection begins this year on Wednesday 22nd March, to evening of Friday 21st April 2023.
Two years ago, Matches were paused mid-game for players to break their fast. Which includes Crystal palace vrs Leicester City. I’m that game both teams and the official agreed that the game will be paused for Wesley fofana and Kouyate to break their fast. This is an incredible step taken by the Premier League
