PHILIPP LAHM TEARS INTO 'UNLOVABLE' PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN, SAYS HE FEELS SORRY FOR THEIR FANS

Philipp Lahm thinks Paris Saint-Germain has a fundamental problem and that the team is playing 'boring football'.

The 39-year-old former Bayern Munich defender, considered by many to be one of the greatest full-backs of all time, has offered a scathing analysis of the Ligue 1 club after they were knocked out of the Champions League.

Christophe Galtier's side were knocked out by Bayern in the round of 16 after two lackluster performances in two matches.

And while speaking to The Guardian, former Germany international Lahm said star Lionel Messi was 'helpless' and 'desperate' when PSG suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena on March 8.

He praised the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who had just lifted the World Cup with Argentina, but said his skills were being used "without purpose or direction". Lahm added:

"The individuals at PSG didn't know how to put together a goal and how to contribute in general. Messi was helpless and desperate at the Allianz Arena."

As well as calling the club a "bland" experience, former Bayern full-back Lahm said he sympathizes with PSG's fanbase.

"We can pity the PSG supporters," he said. "Their hope that something will grow together dies every year. Surely they believe in something else. PSG are moving further away from something to be loved than ever before, despite years of investment."

He pursues:

“This exorbitant football team is like a luxury department store, displaying valuable artifacts that make everyone admire but no one can afford to buy.

"It guarantees high attention and scenery, but only brings economic benefits. If you spend so much money and the quality goes against it, it's not good."

Lahm also talked about another of PSG's best players, Kylian Mbappe.

“Kylian Mbappe is a story in itself,” he said. “He certainly has world-class skills and he is easily claiming the Ligue 1 title. "But his talent is not anchored. In Munich, he was constantly waiting for the ball to land at his feet. It is hard to imagine how his career would blossom in Paris."

The former captain of the German team also said that France won the championship successfully as a political tool of Qatar, but when it came to football on the pitch, the results were disappointing.

He says; "Great groups that people identify together grow in a process. This can only be achieved through collaboration, solidarity and community. Those are European values, but not PSG's."
