Petr Cech might now add another trophy to his illustrious football career after winning 14 major championships, this time in ice hockey.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal player, who took up the sport after quitting football in 2019, has been appointed to the Chelmsford Chieftains side for the final National League Division One South Cup.

Just four months after playing in his final Arsenal game, the Europa League final, he switched to Guildford Phoenix before joining the Cheiftans last year.

Unsurprisingly, Cech plays goalie, the position in ice hockey where he set a record by keeping 202 Premier League clean sheets.

The 40-year-old had a distinguished career in English football, winning five FA Cups, a Champions League, and four Premier League championships.

That experience appears to be making a difference in his Ice Hockey career, as Chelmsford captain Callum Burnett told BBC Essex: 'He's added an air of calmness and has blended in with the squad nicely.

'He's been incredibly impressive in his previous few games, so we're glad to have him in there, and we trust him. He is a very fascinating person to be around.

He is not uncomfortable around the males. We laugh and joke around, and it's an honor to have a member of that stature on the squad.

We are aware of his past and past experiences, but he is aware that this is a separate sport from football and that it is our game. He imparts wisdom to us, and we all value it.

Over the weekend, the Cheiftans and Invicta Dynamos will play a two-game final at home and away.

They tied for second place in the league in terms of points, but the Dynamos had a little advantage going into this matchup thanks to victories in all four of their league encounters.

With 494 appearances across all competitions during his eleven-year stay at Chelsea, Eck is the club's seventh-most-capped player all-time. He also assisted the team in winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, four Premier League crowns, four FA Cups, three League Cups, and one League Cup.
