According to reports, Marcus Rashford want to postpone signing a new contract with Manchester United until the club's new owners are identified.

Rashford's contract with United, which is presently up for sale, is set to expire at the conclusion of the upcoming season.

After being widely known for his difficulties the previous year, the forward is having an incredible season, tallying 27 goals and nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

Rashford, who will be 25 years old, is anticipated to sign the largest contract of his career, one that would span his prime years.

The Sun claims that the England star has remained silent because of United's desire to impose a wage cap of almost £200,000 per week for new contracts.

The club wants to implement this to minimize jealousy among the players because numerous first team stars have recently earned significantly different salaries.

But Rashford and his team are waiting to see what a new administration would bring, with a Qatari group led by Sheikh Jassim and Ineos owner and Britain's richest man Jim Ratcliffe seen as front-runners for the club. Rashford has scored 18 goals in 25 games since the World Cup.

Rashford is currently one of the most in-form players in the world, which means he could likely earn significantly more than £200,000 per week. Both have pledged to spend heavily if they are given the keys to Old Trafford.

The story goes on to say, however, that Rashford's choice to refuse a deal will probably make it take a lot longer than anticipated to resolve his contract problem.

On Wednesday night, the takeover battle took a new turn when it became apparent that, in spite of claims from representatives to the contrary, neither the Qatar-based bid nor that of Sir Jim Ratcliffe had actually been submitted before the deadline of 9pm set by US merchant bank Raine Group, which is handling the process.

Instead, Ratcliffe's Ineos company and the Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani consortium both requested and received more time.

Delayed bids are anticipated to be submitted in the following 24 hours, with a revised deadline of Friday at 9 PM.

Rashford is presently relaxing in New York during the international break after withdrawing from England duty due to an injury.
