OFFICIAL: World Cup champion Julián Lvarez inks a one-year deal with Man City, keeping him with the team into 2028.
With a new five-and-a-half-year deal, Julian Alvarez has committed to Premier League champion Manchester City through the year 2028.
The 22-year-old, who joined City from River Plate last year, has 10 goals in 33 games and saw his stock soar as a result of his contribution to Argentina's World Cup victory.
Alvarez received a wage increase for his four goals in Qatar, two of which came in the semifinal victory over Croatia.
Alvarez and City had been negotiating an improved contract, and the Argentine has decided to stay, despite the fact that Erling Haaland has only allowed him to make six Premier League starts.
"It's an honor for me to extend my contract," Alvarez stated. For my family and I, this is a really proud time. It's incredible that a club like City would have such confidence in me.
"My first season here has been great, but there's still a lot I can improve on. City provides me with all I need to reach my potential, even though I know I can do better.
Txiki Begiristain, director of football, continued, "Julian has pleased everyone at Manchester City with his technical prowess, commitment, and attitude.
"He is the perfect example for a budding football player and an inspiration to anyone trying to break into the industry. He has previously demonstrated his superb movement and skills for scoring goals while playing in England.
"We seen what a unique talent he has at the World Cup. It's incredible to have won it at such a young age.
Argentine football player Julian Alvarez was born on January 31, 2000, and he plays forward. He presently competes in the English Premier League for Manchester City. He received his training at Atlético Calchón's youth academy. He participated in and won the 2017 Copa Generación Adidas, and a year later he made his River Plate professional debut. In 2018, his group won the Copa Libertadores. Before making his senior squad debut in June 2021, he competed for the national youth team. His most notable accomplishment to date is Argentina's 2022 World Cup victory.
