Joshua Kimmich still thinks highly of Julian Nagelsmann, despite the fact that it was anticipated that Bayern Munich will fire him on Friday.

Joshua Kimmich, a midfielder for Bayern Munich and Germany, praised Julian Nagelsmann before the 35-year-anticipated old's firing by the Bundesliga's top club, saying that the man "easily" ranks among his top three coaches.

Although club officials previously referring to Nagelsmann as a "long-term project," strong reports started to surface on Thursday suggesting Bayern will fire him from his position.

It was reported that Bayern had made their choice and shared it internally. The announcement was expected to be made official on Friday as the team reportedly got ready to name Thomas Tuchel as their new manager.

Kimmich, one of Bayern's most senior stars, attended Germany's pre-match news conference on Friday before a friendly against Peru even though many of the club's players are away on international duty this week.

He was unwilling to discuss the rumors in public but was clear about how he felt about Nagelsmann.

It's understood that it's a hot topic, but since the club hadn't confirmed anything, he said, "I ask for your forgiveness that I won't say anything more about it."

"Of course, as a Bayern player, this talk affects you. He is the coach you work with every day in your own club, thus it's about the coaching position there.

So that shouldn't be a factor in the game on Saturday or in practice here.

Added him: "Outstanding coach Julian Nagelsmann is.

"I've had a number of outstanding coaches throughout the years, but he ranks clearly in the top three. But, I am unable to comment on the current situation."

Given that Bayern won the Bundesliga last season, are firmly in the title battle this season, and are still in the running for the Champions League, the issue seems to have arisen out of nowhere.

But, it's been said that the team's recent performance, which has seen them drop 12 points in 10 Bundesliga games, has left the club's hierarchy displeased.

They are now one point behind rival Borussia Dortmund, who they will play in the Der Klassiker on April 1.

Another view holds that Bayern was forced into action due to Tuchel's availability, or the potential that he would soon become unavailable once more.

The former coach of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Dortmund hasn't been employed since September, but he was showing a lot of interest in Tottenham, who are expected to oust Antonio Conte, and PSG, where Christophe Galtier's future is in doubt after the club was eliminated from the Champions League.

The present-day head coach of Germany, Hansi Flick, served as Nagelsmann's predecessor at Bayern. That Friday, Flick did not conceal his disbelief at the circumstance, but he was anxious to prevent it from becoming a distraction.

We were obviously, very startled by the headlines from last night, but Bayern Munich hasn't yet responded, according to Flick.

"I won't address the topic during the news conference out of respect for Julian and Bayern. That says everything."

Added him: "Not everyone will be impacted. Even so, it is my responsibility to speak with every player, and I have already done so. We must now wait and watch how things turn out in the end."
