Manchester City v Burnley - Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England - March 18, 2023 Erling Braut Haaland of Manchester City celebrates their first goal
Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is widely regarded as the Premier League's most valuable player, with the top 20 dominated by players from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Haaland joined Man City from Borussia Dortmund for a relatively reasonable £51m last summer. He was worth many times over after less than a year of showing his talent at his father's old club.
The Norway international has scored 42 goals in his first 37 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side.
He has signed a five-year contract and has a contract with the Etihad Stadium team until 2027, but that has not stopped rumors that he will move to Real Madrid in the coming years. It has been suggested that his contract has a release clause that would allow him to leave for the Spanish giants for an undisclosed fee.
"It's not true, he has no specific release clause, neither for Real Madrid nor for any other team," the City boss told reporters earlier in the season.
"I have a feeling he's extremely happy here."
Valued at 170 million euros, Haaland is one step ahead of the next Premier League MVP. Arsenal's rising star Bukayo Saka and Man City team-mate Phil Foden, aged 21 and 22 respectively, are the next most valuable players in the league according to transfer expert Transfermarkt.
Tottenham's talisman, 29-year-old Harry Kane, is the only player valued at more than 100 million euros. The striker who scored 204 Premier League goals for his boyhood club is approaching the final year of his contract with Spurs. Manchester City have been unable to secure his signature after seeing bids pushed back into 2021, while Manchester United are increasingly seen as a potential destination this summer.
The rest of the top 20 most valuable players are dominated by traditional 'Big Six' players, with the sole exception of West Ham captain Declan Rice. The 24-year-old England international has been closely linked with a number of clubs, including Arsenal.
Other names catching the eye are Cody Gakpo, who is worth the more than £35m Liverpool spent on him in January, while Chelsea duo Wesley Fofana and Mykhailo Mudryk, are undervalued. compared to what they signed at the start of this season.
