Anthony Elanga, a forward for Manchester United, has acknowledged that his lack of playing time this year has left him dissatisfied.

Under Erik ten Hag, the 20-year-old Swedish international has made seven starts, although only one of those came after the World Cup.

Elanga has disclosed that he spoke with the United manager, who maintained that all he could do is "keep practicing hard" and wait for a chance.

"It is annoying. It's crucial that you play, so do it. But it's up to the coach, not me, whether you play or not," Elanga said to Aftonbladet.

I chatted with Erik [ten Hag], and our conversation was confidential. I just keep working out hard because I know what he wants me to do. I just need to be prepared to seize the chance when it presents itself.

We talk a lot, not just about [the lack of game time], but also about the outside world. The benefit of the club is that we talk a lot and they give me a lot of support.

Reports surfaced in January claiming Elanga was a target for LaLiga leaders Barcelona due to his lack of playing time.

There was discussion, but at the moment, my attention is on United. In reaction to the rumors, Elanga said, "We still have a tremendous season ahead of us and need to finish as well as possible."

I can't concentrate on that right now; that was in January. The greatest thing I can do is concentrate on the remaining games [with United], after which I will be able to speak with the team. Even if I adore the club, I must play.

"I'm only young." We spoke with the club, and both I and they are aware of the requirements.

As Elanga hasn't scored in more than a year, Ten Hag plainly has less faith in him than did Ralf Rangnick, under whom he started more than 50% of games.

His playing time may be constrained because players like Antony, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Anthony Martial are vying for slots on the wings.

The next weekend, Manchester United will play again when they host Newcastle at St. James' Park.
