Argentine goalkeeper Leandro Requena made history when he scored what has been called the longest goal in football history.
It's not often that you see a goalie score, let alone from his area.
Each time it happens, it's a sight to behold - but this time could be more special with the claim that it was the 'longest goal' ever scored in football.
It happened in the Chilean first division, when Requena scored for Cobresal against Colo-Colo.
Cobresal made it 2-0 in the 77th minute when the 35-year-old was holding the ball in his own penalty area. Clearly having a hawk's vision, the keeper saw his opponent standing far away from his area.
Rolling the ball quickly, Requena threw a long ball over the heads of all of the Colo-Colo midfielders and bouncing over Colo-Colo's Brayan Cortes.
The ball bounced quite well when Cortes tried to head it but failed as it slowly bounced back into the net to make it 3-0.
The broadcasters exclaimed "GOAL!" when the Goalkeeper's teammates surrounded it to celebrate.
The goal gave his team a 3-1 win but it could be about to improve for the keeper. Requena's kick is said to have flown from a distance of 101 meters, higher than the previous Guinness world record of 96.01 meters.
It is owned by Newport County goalkeeper Tom King, who hit the feat in 2021.
Requena revealed after the game that the club were bidding for a record.
He told Radio Bio Bio:
"I asked Juan Silva, the club's manager, if the record claim was really happening and he said 'obviously yes'.
“So now we are waiting for what is needed to verify what the gap really is. (Silva) told me that the ANFP (Chilean Football Federation) called him to check the measurements of the pitch, which were 105 meters and a bit.
"If so, since the area is five meters, it would logically be more than 100. The truth is that I am satisfied with all of this, more than anything for me personally, but also for the organization. , for Chilean football to go down in history with an event like this makes me happy.
The location of the pitch could also play a role in the feat, with the Cobresal Estadio El Cobre stadium at 2200m above sea level.
Requena explains how he used the conditions to his advantage. He continued:
“I wanted to take the kick really fast like we did a lot of times at high altitude, to try to catch the opponent off guard and have him come out a little bit stronger than usual.
“The first thing I do as soon as the ball leaves my foot is hold my head because there are two players in a clear position to counter-attack and I realize that has been going on for a long time.
"When I saw the bounce making it difficult for Brayan and he got past him, I thought the ball could go in."
