Messi and Mbappe have consistently been connected with departures from PSG in 2023, and those rumors have only increased in frequency in the wake of the club's contentious elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich.
While Mbappe has once again been linked with a move to Real Madrid, Argentine legend Messi has been of interest to Barcelona. At the end of February, 90min reported that club president Joan Laporta is growing more confident of convincing the forward to re-join the club.
But, PSG president Al-Khelaifi claimed to Marca during the international break that the club intended to retain their greatest assets this summer: "We are lucky to have some of the best players in the world, who decided to play for PSG despite getting offers from other teams.
"To keep them running, we are working. We're going to evaluate what we're doing and make sure we can keep doing it; we want to act appropriately. There won't be any mistakes made by us."
Recently, PSG boss Christophe Galtier updated the media on the future of striker Kylian Mbappe and said he doesn't need to persuade the Paris-born player to join the team: "I don't need to make an effort to persuade Kylian to stay.
"Even though Kylian has said it, any player you asked would have discovered him in the same mood—extremely disappointed—following the elimination.
"Regarding Kylian, he plays for PSG and makes that clear in every match. He is really focused on doing well and succeeding so that he can help the club reach its highest level."
Performances of Messi and Mbappe this season
While PSG has struggled under Galtier generally, Messi and Mbappe have excelled, with Messi scoring 13 goals and dishing out 13 assists in Ligue 1 and Mbappe scoring 19 goals.
The two also took first and second place in the most recent "The Best" awards, with Messi coming out on top and Mbappe coming in second.
