A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been struck between a number of Thai businesses and the Jospong Group of Businesses (JGC).
Around 10 of these businesses are involved in the Ghana-Thailand Rice Project and are part of the Thai rice value chain.
The businesses, which span the entire rice value chain, include, among others, Smart Engineering Consultants Company, FairAgora Asia Ltd., New Kaset Thai Company Ltd., TAMCO Trading International Co. Ltd., Glofert Growing Growth, and Hypro Foods World Co. Ltd. Fertilizer manufacturers, dealers of rice milling equipment, and seedling research facilities are also on the list.
The remaining companies are Deler International Rice Machinery Co., TNP Billionaire Group, SQI Group Company Limited, and Aneksin Motor Partnership Limited.
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, the MoUs were signed with the corporations at Grand Fortune, Bangkok, Thailand, which was hosting a Thailand-Ghana Business Conference.
Although the other Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) signed for their own firms, Mrs. Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong, the CEO of the Asian African Consortium (AAC), initialed for the JGC.
Yaw Addo Frimpong, the deputy minister of food and agriculture in charge of crops, Mrs. Florence B. Akonor, the honorary consul of Ghana in Thailand, Dr. Sicha Singsomboon, and Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the founder and executive chairman of the JGC, were all present at the signing ceremony.
The Ghana-Thailand Business Forum: Partnership for Sustainable Rice Production in Ghana was the focus of the business conference, which included leaders of the Thai rice industry, representatives from a number of businesses, and a delegation from Ghana, led by the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC).
The Ghana delegation included professionals and academics from a range of institutions, including the University of Ghana, Legon; the University of Cape Coast; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST); the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research-Crop Research Institute (CSIR-CRI); the Ghana Rice Farmers Association; the Competitive African Rice Platform; traditional leaders; metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs); and private businesses.
At a press conference shortly after the signing ceremony, the CEO of AAC, Ms. Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong, thanked the Thai enterprises for their enthusiasm in collaborating with the group for the success of the Ghana-integrated rice project.
She stressed, "We will require your complete support after we have signed MoUs with you (referring to the Thai rice firms), which signifies that we have placed our faith and confidence in your enterprises."
She said that "we operate with speed and will be doing the same with your firms," claiming that the cooperation they have formed would be advantageous to both parties.
In this regard, she urged the Thai businesses to visit and research Ghana.
She stated, "A team will be working with you (the Thai rice firms) to make sure we start the rice project in Ghana right away.
Mrs. Florence B. Akonor, Ghana's High Commissioner to Malaysia, allayed the Thai people's concerns that they would lose out in the relationship.
Ghana and Thailand stand to gain from the alliance we are forming with your businesses, she claimed.
She said, "Investing in Ghana is secure, and your money will be safe."
