Two people are currently in the grips of the Bono East Regional Police Command over the shooting of cattle in Droman in the Nkoranza North district of the Bono East Region.


On the 7th March, 2023, gun men numbering about four, invaded an area where cattle were grazing and opened fire at the herd killing six instantly and injuring four others including one person who is said to be the caretaker.


What triggered the action is not yet known but residents say the incident was terrific that left them in shock. Some of the residents who spoke on anonymity say they run for their own lives when the gun men invaded the area.


One of the cattle owners who spoke to the Bono East Regional Correspondent of Metro tv said the cattle did not do anything provocative to anyone that day and cannot tell what warranted what he described as barbaric act.


There are series of attacks on cattle herds and their handlers in the Bono East area and some parts of the country. It is always reported that, the cattle herded by the local farmers always destroy farm produce of crop farmers. In some Cocoa Communities, people say their cocoa farms gets completely down when cattle herds invade their farms. Some yam farmers, cashew farmers and the likes also always give similar stories.


In the case of Droman, the cattle did not invade any farm nor destroy any farmland or crops. The incident which raised eyebrows was reported to the Bunsua police in the Nkoranza North District and later to the Bono East Regional Police Command.


Presently, two people are in the grips of the Bono East Regional Police Command over the incident. They were arrested following intelligence from the ground and are going to face the law.


One of the cattle owners said a calf was pulled out of the stomach of one of the killed cattle. He said, they are troubled by the incident and are calling on authorities in the area to come to their aid as he thinks the animals and their products also contribute revenue to the national chest.
