The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) has received praise from the Mental Health Authority for consistently assisting the organisation in raising awareness of mental health issues.

Dr. Caroline Amissah, the Authority's acting chief executive officer, noted that stigma has decreased because, in contrast to earlier times when mental health received little attention.

She was speaking when the church gave the Authority 200,000 Ghana cedis (GHS 200,000) at the conclusion of Life Walk, the annual health and fitness event hosted by ICGC that promotes healthy lives and provides a platform for social impact.

The church decided to support the Mental Health Authority for the fifth time in a row as part of a commitment to help enhance conditions at the nation's Psychiatric Hospitals and raise awareness to guarantee efficient case management.

The presentation was delivered to the Authority by Reverend Anthony Cudjoe, the ICGC's Regional Overseer for Accra South, on behalf of the General Overseer, Pastor Mensa Otabil.

According to him, ICGC's support for mental health is based on the knowledge that this area of Ghana's healthcare system is underserved and requires the greatest amount of resources.

Life Walk, according to Reverend Anthony Cudjoe, is an evangelistic and charitable event rather than just a health and fitness competition. He recalled to the crowd how Jesus Christ spread good deeds everywhere he went.

He asserted that "the gospel's good impact on society is our mandate and the third thread of our mission."

Dr. Caroline Amissah stated in her remarks that the partnership with ICGC and other partners had raised the demand for mental healthcare, with more people now freely seeking treatment when they are having problems.

She urged other organisations to imitate the ICGC's action in order to support the government's efforts.

Senior church leaders, including General Overseer Pastor Mensa Otabil, his wife Lady Joy, General Secretary Rev. Morris Appiah, Regional Overseer for Accra North Rev. Yaw Annor, and various district heads, led the walk this year, which started at the Christ Temple East Campus of the church in Teshie.
