The US Government has pledged a US$100 million to help countries in the Sahel Region to prevent threats of violent extremist activities.
The United States' Vice President Kamala Harris made the offer public on March 27, 2023, in Accra. She claimed that the money would benefit nations like Benin, Ghana, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, and Togo.
The second American couple arrived in Accra yesterday, March 26, 2023, and are currently visiting Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from March 29 to March 31 before departing for Ghana from March 26 to 29. Their final stop will be Lusaka, Zambia on March 31 and April 1, according to an official communication.

Speaking at the Jubilee House in Accra, where both Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo and the US Vice President were giving official addresses, it was stated that the US Government was satisfied with the part Ghana has been playing in maintaining the peace of the Sahel region.
Vice President Kamala said, "We also recognise Ghana's significant contribution to the Sahel and I thank you for your leadership there."
"To help address the threat of violent extremism and instability, today I'm pleased to announce one hundred million dollars in support of Benin, Ghana, Guinea, and Sierra Leone," she said.
She added last week, President Joe Biden unveiled a strategic plan for coastal West Africa as part of the United States policy to avert war and promote peace, underlining that "Today, the funds and announcement I have just made will help to implement them."
She expressed hope that the support the US government has announced for the West African region will assist in addressing the region's security, governance, and development issues.
