Across the world, in recent times, the desire for women in leadership has become a matter of interest to most women and in some instances, men alike in many facets of life.
This strong desire has actually gotten several women rise into leadership roles in academia, administration, governance, politics among other fields of profession.
Emma Theofelus is no different. A Namibian, only at age 23, she got appointed as Namibia's Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology in March 2020. This made her the current youngest woman in governance as minister in both Africa and Namibia. Her feat is one glorious and worth celebrating by all standards. She must have worked very hard to deserve it.
She happens to have won several awards. As an award-winning Member of Parliament, Lawyer and Social Justice Advocate, she has been able to demonstrate her worth with a rich track record of working in the advocacy industry and legal services.
Prior this new experience of the life-changing appointment, Honourable Emma Theofelus worked as an employee, specifically as a legal officer in the Ministry of Justice, where she handled roles as drafting human rights reports, implementing the human rights strategy of the nation, among several others. She proved herself as very efficient and reliable on the job.
As a student, her interest in student politics was obvious, owing to taking up a major role as Secretary General of the University of Namibia Student Union. This paved way for her to render services to over 25 thousand students on and off campus. She worked assiduously in that capacity, which made her rise as the favorite among her peers.
As part of her achievements, she was adjudged the Youngest Member of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) at a forum of Young Parliamentarians. She also served as a Legal Advisor to the Namibia National Students Organization (NANSO), during when she had played a key role in getting the students' body to make and embark on particular legal decisions. Also, she served as a Deputy Speaker of the Children's Parliament of the Republic of Namibia as well as Junior Mayor of the City of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
She is really an inspiration to the young generation worth emulating.
