Neymar's penalty technique during his time with Santos was so good that FIFA eventually intervened to ban him.
Since he was a young player at Santos, it is clear that Neymar has had a lot of talent and skill in his wardrobe.
His impressive performances in Brazil earned him a blockbuster move to Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona in 2013, before a world record move to Paris Saint Germain in 2017.
During his time playing for Santos, he was often the one to charge in whenever his team was awarded a penalty.
Neymar's run is second to none as he stops as soon as he makes contact with the ball. At this point, the goalkeeper will move to one side and Neymar then simply passes the ball to the other side.
Although he did not use the technique under all circumstances, it was caught at least five times. In total, Transfermarkt claims Neymar has scored 11 penalties out of 14 he has taken for Santos.
However, Neymar was later forced to change his entire running track due to FIFA's decision to ban the maneuver just before kicking the ball.
In 2010, a FIFA document stated:
"Feeling to kick the ball after a player has completed a turn is considered a violation of Rule 14 and is an unsportsmanlike conduct for which the player must be cautioned."
Despite having to replace one of his most famous runs, Neymar still has an illustrious 12m record. According to Transfermarkt, Neymar has scored 63 of the 77 penalties he has taken in his career, which equates to an 81% conversion rate.
His spot-catching expertise earned him the highest penalty rating on EA Sports' FIFA 22, with a score of 93.
Neymar is currently recovering from ankle surgery as his 22/23 season seems to have come to an end with PSG looking to retain their Ligue 1 crown.
