Manchester United may have to break one of Erik ten Hag's key rules if Marcus Rashford is to commit his long-term future to the club.

Rashford has been in fine form for United this season, especially since returning from the World Cup with England.

In 44 appearances this season, he has scored 27 goals and provided nine assists, making him one of the best strikers on the planet.

The 25-year-old has had a rough couple of seasons with injuries and erratic form, but the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November and the work of United manager Ten Hag have allowed him. really take off.

With Rashford in the best form of his career, United fans would ask for nothing more if the striker commits to his long-term future with the club. However, it seems easier said than done.

Rashford is an exception

Rashford was born and raised at United, but that doesn't mean other top European clubs won't try their luck to sign him.

Paris Saint-Germain offered Rashford a contract worth more than £400,000-a-week last summer, according to The Athletic, but he turned it down.

With the player's current contract at Old Trafford set to expire in 2024, PSG are expected to maintain their interest. If that offer is still on the table then United may have to make an exception to the new policy they are trying to implement.

Last season United's wage bill hit £384m, an all-time high in the Premier League era. Ronaldo's £400,000-a-week salary has contributed to this, but despite his departure, there is a huge pay gap between teams.

In the name of maintaining team harmony - not to mention United's ability to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations - Ten Hag wants to cap club wages at £200,000 a week.

United are hoping to renegotiate the salaries of stars like David de Gea - who earns £375,000 a week - but convincing Rashford to re-sign for half the money PSG are offering could be difficult.

United bosses may have to break the Ten Hag rule if they want to keep their best player beyond 2024.
