Arsenal learns of Thomas Partey injury update as star fails to start Ghana match.

Arsenal was hopeful that Thomas Partey would make it through the international break without reaggravating any of his previous injuries.

Partey has missed five matches so far this season, though with just ten games remaining of the season, Mikel Arteta will be hoping that the ex-Atletico Madrid star is not forced to endure another spell on the sidelines.

The midfielder traveled out to Ghana with Arsenal’s leading performance physio Simon Murphy to ensure that he remains in good condition throughout the break, though the masterplan from Arteta does not appear to have worked.

Partey played in the opening match of the two-legged qualifier against Angola but was dropped to the bench for the follow-up due to an injury. Black Stars manager Hughton revealed: “Thomas [Partey] has some small issues. We felt it was too big of a risk to start him [against Angola]."

The statement provides little detail about the extent of the injury, though some fans are fearful that the problem is significant given that Partey did not even enter the fray as a substitute.

With Arsenal eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, any minor injury could be detrimental to the north London outfit’s title hopes. Former Gunners star Ian Wright spoke about how any form of injury to Partey will have a major impact on his side but he is hopeful that Arteta has enough depth at his disposal to cope, explaining: “There is not a nervousness up until now, but you don’t want to lose someone like Thomas Partey for any amount of time We lost William Saliba. But they seem to have taken the hits up until this point.

People have criticized Arsenal for this and stated, "Let's see when you get injuries to your key players—we've had injuries to all of our main players and are still among them." It now depends on how they finish given the increased pressure for these final games and any potential injuries.
