The passion of Jesus Christ

The passion of Jesus Christ refers to the events leading up to his crucifixion and death. The account of the passion is found in the four Gospels of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

The following is a summary of the major events of the passion:

    1. The Last Supper: Jesus shared a final meal with his disciples, during which he instituted the sacrament of the Eucharist.

    2. Agony in the Garden: Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, where he experienced great agony and was betrayed by Judas Iscariot.

    3. Arrest and Trial: Jesus was arrested by the Roman soldiers, brought before the high priest Caiaphas, and later before the Roman governor Pontius Pilate.

    4. Crucifixion: Jesus was scourged, mocked, and sentenced to be crucified. He was forced to carry his own cross to the site of his execution, where he was nailed to the cross and died.

    5. Burial: Jesus' body was taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb, where it remained until his resurrection on the third day.

The passion of Jesus Christ is a central event in Christian theology, and it is commemorated each year during Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday. Christians believe that Jesus' death and resurrection provide the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins and offer the hope of eternal life.
