The father of Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, Bori Fati, recently gave a sharp interview in which he questioned his son's lack of playing time and made a moveaway suggestion.
In the history of the Spanish top division, Fati made his debut for Barcelona in August 2019 at the age of 16, making him the club's second-youngest player ever. Up until he suffered a catastrophic knee injury in November 2020, the quick-footed attacker kept shattering age-related records for appearances and goals, both at the club level and with the senior Spanish national team.
Fati wouldn't play again until September 2021, and ever since, a number of muscular issues have hindered his transition back into the first squad.
Even though he was available for 25 of the club's 26 games this season, Fati was only given nine league starts, plainly displeasing his father Bori. Fati Sr asked Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, to explain why he was only a minor participant in the action.
"Excellent query, put it to him, "On the Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Bori Fati criticized. "He will have his reasons for doing it as a coach, and I don't have an answer either. I can understand if he feels that way about things like defending himself.
In the upcoming weeks, Bori said he will meet with Fati's agent Jorge Mendes to discuss his son's immediate future.
Bori revealed that there had previously been interest in his son, which Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barcelona's club president prior to Joan Laporta's return to office, had squashed. Fati's contract with Barcelona expires in 2027, and the club reportedly has the option of extending it for an additional two years.
"Yes, I'm angry as a father. I could be wrong, but it doesn't bother me in the least. Mendes is well-known to everyone. He informed me two years ago that Bartomeu had rejected bids he had made.
His father claims that Fati has always intended to stay in Catalonia. "Yes, for Ansu. Depending on what Barça wants, it will change. Ansu is a guy who comes to achieve, therefore if it's for me, I want to see him succeed. Certain topics are off-limits.
However, 90min reported in February that the player's agents had informed Newcastle United and the Premier League's big six that Fati is now dissatisfied with his circumstances in Camp Nou.
Also, Fati's father revealed that Mateu Almemany, Barcelona's director of football, and he had conversations about Fati's lack of playing time. "I rang Mateu. We deserve so much more, in my opinion. While you are at Barça, you are aware of your surroundings and the presence of numerous foreigners. But, we are discussing Barcelona's [number] 10.
"That's it, I'm going to Seville if this keeps up," "Bori made a threat. "I chose not to attend the match against Madrid. I no longer visit the stadium at this time. I've got my box and I'm staying home.
