Chelsea are gearing up for the summer with a huge whirlwind of everything. Mason Mount and Kai Havertz have been tipped to leave this summer and should the duo leave CFC, Todd Boehly could use his financial muscle to sign Joao Felix permanently.
During the January transfer window, CFC signed Felix on a six-month loan, paying 11 million euros in loan fees to Atletico Madrid. The loan deal does not have any buy-back clause, which means that if Chelsea want to sign the Portuguese, they will have to negotiate separately with the Spanish side about the transfer.
Félix was not an immediate success, but was impressive in several places. His ability to dribble from midfield towards goal is impressive but he still has trouble finding the net. Since signing for the Blues, Felix has played nine games but only scored two goals.
Chelsea could sign Joao Felix after selling Mason Mount and Kai Havertz
Chelsea are gearing up for the arrival of Christopher Nkunku this summer. His arrival will pose a challenge to Graham Potter as to which player will face the striker. Potter has used Havertz in the striker position, but his best performances have come when he plays with the main striker or behind the striker. Mount excelled in the same position, playing behind the forward line. Nkunku plays as a striker, but his best performance for RB Leipzig was when he was active as a second striker.
Mount's contract negotiations have stalled and the possibility of the England player leaving this summer is more likely than ever. If a new contract is not agreed, the CFC will gladly sell Mount. Bayern Munich were linked with Mount when Thomas Tuchel was in charge of the Allianz Arena. Havertz is also expected to leave in the summer. The German is not a target for Bayern Munich but is still expected to leave if CFC fails to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Chelsea will demand £50m for Mount while Havertz is valued at £53m by Transfermarkt. Their sales will yield a substantial amount of money that can be reinvested. With two departures, Chelsea could trigger their plans to sign Felix permanently. According to Football Espana, Atletico Madrid want to recoup most of the 127 million euros that Benfica paid for Felix, meaning the 23-year-old will cost more than 100 million euros.
Selling Mount and Havertz will also free up space and ensure there aren't many players with similar profiles. Felix and Nkunku are two very competent options and can coexist in the same system.
