Ten for sale in brutal Chelsea culling as Boehly targets deadly Serie A star in swap deal for struggling Lampard signing
Edouard Mendy and Ben Chilwell of Chelsea after the Premier League match at King Power Stadium, Leicester.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is set to launch a ticket sale at Stamford Bridge to downsize Graham Potter's squad, with a report revealing the names of 10 players set to leave this summer.
The American has acted like a tornado sweeping through the club since his takeover was completed last summer. Indeed, in the two transfer windows under his control, the Blues signed new players worth more than £500m. But that 17-player line left Potter with a bloated squad, giving the coach an unwanted headache. Chelsea have always had a big spending habit under Roman Abramovich. But the Boehly era was on a whole different level. And it's no surprise that Chelsea released its annual financial statements showing a loss of £121.3m.
And while the Blues plan to give Potter more money to bolster his squad, it's likely that more people will leave than come.
Now it looks like the first of these unwanted stars is getting close to a potential exit. And according to reports, Boehly is hoping for an arrow to hit two targets by including one of their summer goals in a swap deal.
The man used as bait was Edouard Mendy, who was signed by Frank Lampard for £22m from Rennes.
His signing initially looked like money well spent as the Senegal star quickly established himself as No.
And he was a big factor in helping Chelsea win tickets to the Champions League final 2021, defeating Man City 1-0 at Porto.
Mendy offers to exchange for Dusan Vlahovic
However, Mendy has lost his place this season to Kepa and has only made 11 appearances this season. Therefore, he is one of the players allowed to go through by Boehly.
Now reports in Italy claim the Blues are trying to use the 31-year-old in a swap deal for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serb has a great record in Italy with 69 goals in 157 games at Fiorentina and Juve.
Plus 10 more assists, that gives him a record of being involved in a goal every 1.98 games.
Such a record has seen Vlahovic attract admiring glances from elsewhere, including Arsenal and Manchester United. Indeed, the Gunners tried and failed to sign Vlahovic in January 2022, before his move to Juventus. And the 23-year-old is on United's radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, now Chelsea is the leading team. They will be hoping Juventus' desire to sign the new No 1 can turn the hunt in their favor. Despite earlier statements, the Bianconeri is not willing to consider a swap deal. Indeed, the Italian giants are keen to bring in a new goalkeeper with Wojciech Szczesny sharing the gloves with Mattia Perin this season.
Mendy one of 10 who could leave Chelsea in devastating elimination
Whether Juventus will bite or not, remains to be seen. However, it looks like Mendy's days are over with the Senegal international among 10 people tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
And according to Calciomercato, some of their unwanted stars could find loopholes in Serie A.
First, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all on AC Milan's radar. His Blues team-mate Trevoh Chalobah is being wanted by city rivals Inter Milan as a potential replacement for Milan Skriniar.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will also have his contract cancelled, leaving him free to leave. Both Milan teams are said to be considering moves.
Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic is another star that is said to be up for sale.
