Manchester United may not qualify for next season's Champions League even if Sir Jim Ratcliffe achieves his dream of taking over the club and they finish in the Top 4.
The problem lies entirely with Ratcliffe; he owns a French team called OGC Nice. However, the new revelations could be a blow to the British billionaire's hopes of taking over the club.
According to UEFA rules, if Manchester United and French club OGC Nice finish first in their respective competitions, only the team with the better record will be allowed to qualify.

If OGC Nice finish third in the French Football League 1 and Manchester United finish fourth in the Premier League, then OGC Nice will reach the Champions League against Manchester United. Moreover, OGC Nice is currently in seventh place and 13 points behind third-placed Lens. Meanwhile, Manchester United are the brightest candidates when they finish in third place in the Premier League with 12 matches remaining.

These things put Ratcliffe in a delicate position. Rumor has it that the British billionaire may decide to sell OGC Nice and consider becoming the new owner of one of Europe's biggest clubs.
However, the question of potential new ownership of Manchester United remains undecided as the Glazers are determined to keep the club. However, Ratcliffe is confident of winning the bidding war. It is reported that the CEO of INEOS has told friends that he will be the next owner of Manchester United.
The chemical company owner submitted a second offer to the Raine Group last week and is awaiting news from the future investment bank.
Another billionaire interested in buying Manchester United is Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the former prime minister of Qatar.
Manchester United fans want to be assured that Sheikh Hamad has no connection to Paris Saint-Germain's ownership. Sheik Hamad sent a second offer to Manchester United, and it was closer to the Glazer asking price.
The former Prime Minister of Qatar wants to do everything to become the new owner.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe
Two billionaires (Ratcliffe and Sheikh Hamad) are not giving up on taking over Manchester United from the Americans (the Glazer family).
Investing in the squad, renovating the stadium and building more infrastructure are the only reasons both sides want to buy the club. They don't want to pull money out of the club like the Glazers do. What do you think of the new development? Is it good or bad? Will Sir Jim Ratcliffe go ahead and buy the club?
