Aurelien Tchouameni admits he's found things 'tough' since rejecting Liverpool for Real Madrid
Former Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni has revealed that he has found things "difficult" since his big-money move to Real Madrid last summer.
The French midfielder swapped Monaco for Madrid when he joined the La Liga giants for an estimated fee of around €80m (Ł70m).
But despite becoming one of the most promising young talents on the planet, the 23-year-old has struggled to find a regular starting place alongside Carlo Ancelotti this season.
Tchouameni has opened up about his plight at Madrid, saying he has been going through 'difficult times' for the first time in his career, but insists he still has faith in his own abilities.
According to Football.fr, Tchouameni said:
“I am confident, I know what I can do. There can be tough moments in an athlete's career, this is the first time it's happened to me but I'm still learning. There is a lot of competition at Real Madrid and you have to be good to compete.
"The first to move forward is Liverpool"
Things could have been different for Tchouameni, after it was revealed he turned down a Premier League move before signing for Real Madrid.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are keen to get the Frenchman's signature as they look to bolster their midfield squad, but despite admitting the Reds were the first club to show interest, the former player The Monegasque said "He didn't hesitate for a second" when Real Madrid called.
Speaking to Le Parisien in November, Tchouameni said:
“The first to come forward was Liverpool, we had discussions. Then Real came. “It's the biggest club in the world. If you want to accomplish great things, mark the history of your sport, look no further.
“So I didn't hesitate for a second. I told my agent:
As long as it's profitable, we do everything to get there.
“I am already convinced. When Paris appeared, my choice was made, even though I was happy to be approached by PSG.
