Three players will be admitted into the Premier League Hall of Fame out of the fifteen players who have been nominated.
Being selected as one of the 15 candidates for the Premier League Hall of Fame made Rio Ferdinand "delighted."
The Hall of Fame, which was established in 2021, has inducted eight players each of the last two years, and on Wednesday it added legendary managers Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
Great players from the last 30 seasons of the Premier League have been nominated, and voting has started for the most recent class of inductees.
Defenders make up the majority of the class of inductees for 2023, including Tony Adams, a former captain of Arsenal, John Terry, a former captain of Chelsea, and Ferdinand and Gary Neville, two mainstays of Manchester United.
Together with former United defender Nemanja Vidic, Petr Cech and Ashley Cole, former Chelsea and Arsenal teammates, are also up for the award.
Manchester United is represented by midfielders Yaya Toure and Michael Carrick, as well as forwards Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, and Michael Owen.
Posted by Ferdinand on Twitter: "I'm honored to receive another nomination for the #PLHallOfFame.
There aren't many good CBs (center-backs) among the nominees."
After being a nominee in 2021 and 2022, the former England captain will be hoping that it is third time lucky.
Voting for the three players who should be inducted is open to the public and runs through Monday, April 10 at 6 p.m. BST.
This time, only three players will join the ranks of the greatest.
Players are only eligible if their retirement was officially announced prior to January 1, 2023, and the shortlist was earlier cut from 25 names to 15.
Players must have played in at least 200 league games for a single club or 250 Premier League games overall to be eligible. They also must have been chosen for a Team of the Decade or 20-year Anniversary team, won a Golden Boot or Golden Glove, been named Player of the Season, won three titles, scored 100 goals, or registered 100 clean sheets.
Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Michael Carrick, Petr Cech, Andy Cole, Ashley Cole, Jermain Defoe, Rio Ferdinand, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Gary Neville, Michael Owen, John Terry, Yaya Toure, and Nemanja Vidic are the 2023 nominees.
