Newcastle loanee Chris Wood will miss the rest of the season for Nottingham Forest, which would be a blow to manager Steve Cooper.

The Forest boss confirmed the news on Thursday during his press conference ahead of the weekend's game against Wolves. "Chris Wood will be out for the rest of the season," the Wales manager said via the Shields Gazette. "He was injured during the international break."

Wood met the New Zealand national team at halftime but did not play any of their matches. The striker is only training but it seems to have affected his season a lot. The 31-year-old has been a key part of Cooper's squad since being loaned out by Newcastle in January, starting in five of the seven games he has played.

Forest were obligated to buy Wood at the end of the season on his loan and it was activated after the striker started just three games. The New Zealand star is set to join the club permanently from Newcastle this summer in a deal believed to be around £16m.

Steve Cooper's side are just two points from the relegation zone in 16th place and injuries like these are a serious blow to their chances of survival.

'Definitely not' - Trusted Liverpool reporter says Red Devils can't recruit Bundesliga star

newspapers

Liverpool were recently linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan Ndicka, but Reds correspondent Neil Jones says a deal is unlikely to happen.

Jurgen Klopp is looking for a central defender this summer and anything related to the transfer of the French star makes sense. The defender is young, has a good record in the German team and is a free agent, but according to Jones, Liverpool will not sign the 23-year-old this summer.

The GOAL reporter told The Redmen TV: "Unfortunately, given the conversations I've had about this player, I'm not going to refuse hard, but firmly. .

"The people I've talked to around Liverpool have poured cold water on it and I believe they're right."

According to the Mirror, Liverpool have been tracking the French defender since he was a teenager with Auxerre and will try to bring him back to Anfield this summer. Arsenal and Tottenham are also monitoring Ndicka's situation and the interest in the midfielder does not stop there as many European clubs want the Frankfurt star.

A move for Ndicka would make sense for the Merseyside club as they would save money to rebuild their midfield. However, it seems unlikely that a move to Anfield will happen this summer, but the French defender will have more clubs to choose from.
