In an interview, Gary Neville and Ruud van Nistelrooy discuss an almost-punch-up event that occurred between them while they were both playing for Manchester United.
Between 2001 and 2006, the two worked together at Old Trafford for five years, during which time the Red Devils won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.
However, emotions increased after Middlesbrough humiliated them 3-1 on Boxing Day 2002 at the Riverside.
Neville asked the then-PSV boss on The Overlap: "Do you remember Middlesbrough back then? Do you recall it beside me?
Only you have ever come to punch me at the conclusion of a game.
"You gave me a right b********* and rightly so," Van Nistelrooy retorted. If that's what you were talking about, then I didn't do anything in the game.
The Dutchman failed to present himself as a choice for Neville when the right back possessed the ball and started the altercation during a frustrating afternoon for the Red Devils.
And I didn't turn there because I had an irritated big toe, Van Nistelrooy recounted. I was traveling to Middlesbrough in flip flops since it was that red and inflamed. I couldn't move after I put on my boots before the game.
Neville said: "I went f****** move and you went "f*** off Gary"" after he didn't show up for the ball.
"And I just snapped and I just lost it," Van Nistelrooy continued, "and I was storming into the dressing room and came up to you."
Then Neville chimed in: "I remember I got substituted and I went in to the changing room and all of a sudden I heard you shouting coming through the door and you were like, "I'm going to f****** murder you," and I was like, "Oh Ruud has snapped," and everyone came in between us."
I've been feeling guilty about my shouting for the past 15 to 20 years, so this makes me feel better.
The former United striker then displayed his modesty by saying, "You were correct (to yell at me) because I didn't show and I needed to be there at the moment for you, but it was a hell of a trip that for me."
Finally, Neville said, "And you had a hurting toe. I don't believe the United supporters will feel bad for you.
Van Nistelrooy won the Premier League Player of the Season and Golden Boot in 2002-03 with 25 goals. He scored 150 goals in 219 games for United.
He was traded to Real Madrid in the summer of 2006 after a notorious altercation with Cristiano Ronaldo, but the former striker also revealed how Roy Keane had been irritated with him because of his wardrobe choices.
With my headband, Roy, the 46-year-old remarked. For four months, he killed me!
When I first joined United, my hair was longer. I put a hairband on for training, and when I went to the changing room and the mirrors, he said, "F****** hell mate," and he continued to say that for three months.
Eventually, I cut my hair because I had had enough. After doing it every day for two months, I had to get it trimmed after three.
