Football has become a much more lucrative sport over the years. Today, football stars are signing multi-million dollar contracts that span many years.

Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest paid player in the world after moving to Al-Nassr last winter.

However, looking at players who have only played in Europe, Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe is the highest-paid player. The Frenchman signed a new contract with the French Ligue 1 club last summer and he now earns 72 million euros a year. His Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar Jr is the second highest paid footballer in Europe. The Brazilian superstar returned home with a salary of 44.1 million euros/year.

Another Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Lionel Messi is the third highest earner in European football. The Argentine legend earns 40.5 million euros a year.

Former Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard is the fourth highest earner in Europe. The Belgian striker has been constantly injured since moving to the Santiago Bernabeu. However, he is still the highest paid player in Spanish La Liga. Hazard earns 27 million euros a year.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski completes the top five. The Polish superstar left Bayern Munich for Barcelona last summer and his current contract pays him €26 million a year.

Daichi Kamada

Liverpool scored 94 goals in the Premier League last season, averaging 2.47 goals per game, but Jurgen Klopp is having problems in attack as the Red Devils are no longer prolific this season.

Liverpool have only scored 47 goals in 26 league appearances, averaging 1.8 goals per game, so they are looking to beef up their strength in the transfer market to add some goals to the squad.

According to Sport 1 and Bild via Sport Witness, Liverpool are interested in Daichi Kamada and could sign the attacking midfielder from Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer.

Kamada joined Frankfurt from Sagan Tosu in 2017 and has made 167 appearances in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and providing 31 assists. The 26-year-old is a regular at Deutsche Bank Park, scoring 13 goals with five assists in 35 games this season, but Frankfurt is doomed to lose him. The Bundesliga outfit are said to have withdrawn their contract offer for Kamada, so the Japan international is leaving in the coming months and Liverpool are said to be eyeing him on. He is valued at around £26 million by Transfermarkt, but Frankfurt will now lose heavily.

Jurgen Klopp has only Harvey Elliot and Fábio Carvalho as possible replacements for Kamada, but the duo have not had a regular starting position this season.

Elliot has made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and 2 assists. However, he has only scored 3 goals in 26 league games so the 19-year-old needs to work hard to complete his final product. As for Carvalho, the 20-year-old has scored three goals in 21 games since joining from Fulham last summer. He has only started four games in his first season at Anfield, so Kamada will be a significant upgrade that won't cost a dime.

Liverpool tend to rely on full-backs and wingers for creativity, opting for a traditional midfield trio rather than a midfield playmaker between the lines, so their interest in Kamada could prompting Klopp to predict a turnaround next season.

The Japan international, who has 6 goals with 3 assists in 28 caps, averages 1 goal or 1 assist every 2 games, while creating 22 chances and made 46 crosses. Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has tried to keep Kamada at the club, but the 26-year-old is looking to move abroad.
