Wayne Rooney, the all-time leading scorer for Manchester United, has drawn comparisons between current striker Marcus Rashford and summer transfer target Harry Kane.
With 27 goals in 44 games across all competitions, Rashford is having his greatest season in a United jersey to date and has helped them win the Carabao Cup.
Bruno Fernandes (10) is the only other member of the team with ten or more goals this season, thus he has nonetheless had to carry the most of the Red Devils' scoring load.
90min has learned that Kane, who is now England and Tottenham's all-time leading scorer, is a target for United as they look to add a new center forward during the summer transfer window.
D.C. United manager Rooney highlighted Rashford's resiliency and Kane comparisons in a Times essay.
The smile I remembered from that sweet kid who rose through the ranks and broke into our team when I was captain was gone, Rooney wrote. "If you think back to only a year ago, Marcus was in and out of the starting XI, hardly scoring, playing in different positions and the smile I remembered from that lovely kid was gone."
"He now appears to be a completely different player and to be doing well off the field as well. He appears to be having fun playing football and is sprinting with increased confidence. He does all I asked of him in what I wrote about wanting to see from him: he penetrates with his off-the-ball runs and commits defenders when he's on the ball.
"While he has always been a terrific finisher, you can notice an improvement in front of goal as a result of increased confidence. He is no longer overthinking his decisions or delaying them, which causes him to finish less forcefully than he should. Instead, he is now taking risks without a second's hesitation.
