Pep Guardiola was furious when he fined defender Gerard Pique and made him pay for a team meal after he 'endangered his health' by wearing a short-sleeved shirt.

The former Barcelona defender, who enjoyed huge success under Guardiola from 2008 to 2012, rarely wears short-sleeve shirts, especially in the later stages of his career.

Instead, the Spaniard opted for longer sleeves, even in hot weather. But why?

Pique recently shared the decision and you can tell it was partly down to his former manager, who 'reprimanded' the defender after he wore a short-sleeve shirt on one particular occasion. . Talking about the incident, Pique said:

“Once in Barcelona it was very cold, but I wore short sleeves.

"A picture of me in the snow and I'm wearing a short-sleeved shirt appeared. Pep saw me and scolded me, punished me, didn't call me to play and made me pay for food for the whole team, because I was putting my health at risk. muscle."

Since that day, Pique has almost abandoned short-sleeves in favor of long-sleeves. Meanwhile, his relationship with Guardiola has 'worsened' during Pep's final season at Camp Nou.

That being said, the pair are said to be on good terms now. In fact, Pique recently met her former boss again.

"I met him in Abu Dhabi and we went out for coffee. I've always had a very close relationship with Pep," the former Manchester United defender told Jordi Wilder on YouTube.

"There were ups and downs. The first three years were full of roses but the last year was brutal, I'm sure it was also my fault. You don't know why things started going wrong. relationships started to turn sour. "It has been a very complicated year on a personal level. I will always be grateful to him, we have a very good relationship."

In November last year, Pique announced he was retiring from professional football following a match against Almeria in La Liga.

The 36-year-old announced his decision with a video on social media.

“Football has given me everything,” says Pique, who made 102 caps for Spain and helped them win the 2010 World Cup.

“Barcelona gave me everything. Culers (Barcelona fans) gave me everything.

"And now that [this] childhood dream has come true, I want to tell you that I've decided it's time to end this journey."

Pique burst into tears after being substituted in his last game as a Barcelona player.
