To enhance the region's medical supply chain and health outcomes, Kwasi Adu-Gyan, the Bono East Regional Minister, officially opened the remodelled Bono East Regional Medical Store.

The renovated 13-room building, which had been vacant for more than ten years, now features offices for shop managers, accounting, and the regional supply manager in addition to a quarantine zone and administration rooms.

After the regional medical shop was relocated to Sunyani, the building that housed the former Brong Ahafo Regional Medical Store was left vacant.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) provided funding for the renovation, which also includes steps to promote best warehousing practises.

In order to improve its operations, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) also purchased various logistics, including computers.

The new regional medical store will carry a large variety of medications and medical supplies and act as a hub for supplying all of the area's healthcare providers.

The region, which has roughly 372 medical institutions, previously depended on the Bono Regional Medical Store in Sunyani, where it battled with the Bono and the Ahafo regions for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.

The directorate claimed that the circumstance made it difficult to get medications and other medical supplies.

Indebtedness

Regional medical shops around the nation, according to Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), are heavily indebted, he stated at a ceremony to launch the facility last Friday.

He clarified that the facilities' debt was a significant issue that had an impact on the system's supply chain.

He claimed that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS) owed the service delivery points, which in turn owed the regional medical shops, who in turn owed the private sector and their suppliers.

He said that the issue had impacted the procurement procedures, resulting in a lack of crucial medications across all of the nation's medical institutions.

Nonetheless, he assured that the necessary measures and systems had been implemented to overcome the difficulties and ensure a seamless delivery.

Important: Decentralization

In order to bring services closer to the people, according to Dr. Kuma-Aboagye, it is essential that drugs and other medical supplies be decentralised.

He emphasised the necessity for the facility to be stocked with the proper medical equipment in order to increase facility efficiency, noting that the medical supply chain was a crucial industry for the realisation of universal health care.

He said that when there was a significant demand for medications in the region, the facility would boost storage capacity in addition to the Bono Regional Medical Store.
