In Fawoman, in the Banda District of the Bono Region, a sugar factory is being built as part of the government's One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) plan.
A Chinese business called Bui Sugar Limited and the Bui Power Authority have an equity agreement for the project, which is planned to start full production by the end of 2024. (BPA).
As part of the program, BPA has given Bui Sugar Limited a total of 13,000 acres of land for the production of sugarcane plantations that will supply the facility once it is operational.
The investor has planted sugarcane on 250 acres of the 1,200 acres of land that have so far been cleared.
It is anticipated that the facility would generate a total of 60,000 metric tons of raw sugar yearly for both domestic use and export after the entire 13,000 or 6,000 hectares of land supplied under the agreement are planted with crops.
They were discovered when the facility was visited to assess its development by the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu-Banahene, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BPA, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi.
Construction
The Bui Sugar Limited's managing director, Wan Wei Hua, shed some insight on the company's activities by explaining that the manufacturing block's real construction will start in June of this year.
Prior to the start of production, the factory's construction and equipment installation are anticipated to take one and a half years.

He clarified that the company's present priorities were the procurement of sufficient raw materials and the setup for the building of the manufacturing block.
According to Mr. Hua, 500 locals are currently working in the sugarcane plantation's cultivation, but by the time the factory begins to produce, an additional 1000 locals will have been hired.
Agreement
For his part, Mr. Dzamesi outlined how BPA's arrangement with Bui Sugar Limited was made possible by the Act that constituted the authority and allowed it to do so in March 2022.
When the plant is fully operational, it is anticipated to provide more than 5,000 indirect jobs and roughly 1,500 direct jobs.
