Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has been publicly urged to resign by Barcelona in response to a La Vanguardia accusation.

In relation to the El Caso Negreira case, Tebas is accused of providing the public prosecutor with fraudulent evidence, to which Tebas has answered.

Barcelona described the allegations against their club as "fake proof to indict our club" and stated their "anger, dismay, and outrage" over them. According to the statement, La Liga is "fanning the flames behind the scenes" and they feel that they are the "victim of a publicity campaign."

Apart from his typical gibberish "We could never have guessed he would provide phony evidence to incriminate us," the statement says.

Due to his "obsession" and "manifest hate" of Barcelona, the author is accused of manipulating the media to sway public opinion against the club. Should Tebas not provide more public justification for his actions beyond the tweet, the statement demands that he resign.

It appears like Tebas and Laporta's conflict will last for some time. Shortly after the Caso Negreira disclosures, Tebas urged the Barcelona President to step down if he could not provide an explanation, and the Blaugrana have now reciprocated. Laporta also introduced the word "obsession" for the first time to describe what he believes to be a campaign from Tebas.

FULL STATEMENT

FC Barcelona wishes to express its utmost indignation, anger, and dismay in light of the seriousness of the information that has surfaced today, Monday, in La Vanguardia, according to which the La Liga president Javier Tebas is connected to the presentation of false evidence to the public prosecutor in an effort to incriminate our club.

Because of this, we immediately demand that the president of La Liga make an appearance in the public to defend himself beyond the poorly researched and threatening-looking tweet that Mr. Tebas posted earlier today. FC Barcelona feels as though it is the target of a media campaign for hypothetical incidents because it has never paid referees, as president Joan Laporta has stated repeatedly in recent weeks.

With La Liga fanning the flames behind the scenes against our Club and contributions from its president who has only gone in one direction: trying to condemn us in the eyes of the public before the facts have been judged, this harassment involves a group of media outlets and opinion writers with varying degrees of intent.

The president of La Liga has damaged FC Barcelona with the help of the media before, but unlike his usual rubbish, we could not have predicted that he would attempt to implicate our team with fake information.

Given that it discusses actions that are in no way consistent with the duties of the La Liga president, the article published today by La Vanguardia should immediately put all the teams in the league on high alert.

Mr. Tebas should leave his position as president of La Liga if only for this reason—that he is exercising authority over the league that is not his—as well as for reasons of decency and respect.
