Liverpool injury news as Chelsea could be without six players in Tuesday night's Premier League clash with the Reds
Chelsea's Raheem Sterling
Liverpool are back in the Premier League this week as they travel to face Chelsea.
On Tuesday night, the Reds marched to Stamford Bridge in a bid to grab three much-needed points in the battle for a place in the top four of the Premier League. A 4-1 loss to Manchester City at the weekend sent Liverpool down to eighth place and eight points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp will face the absence of a number of players due to injury during the trip to the capital. Luis Diaz, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita are absent and Chelsea will also have injury problems. Here, ECHO will take a look at what Chelsea and interim manager Bruno Saltor face as the clash with Liverpool approaches.
Rahim Sterling
Chelsea striker Raheem Sterling picked up a hamstring injury just before the international break.
Although the injury is not thought to be too serious, Sterling has been left out of the England squad as a precaution.
Sterling missed the defeat to Villa at the weekend through injury, and is uncertain if he will be fit enough to return to his former club on Tuesday night.
Edouard Mendy
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy broke his finger in January and required surgery. The Senegal international has since gradually recovered from his injury and even returned to training with goalkeepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli.
Cesar Azpilicueta
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta suffered a concussion during Chelsea's loss to Southampton last month.
He was later taken to hospital for a check-up but now appears to be recovering and is about to return to activities.
With Reece James back from injury, Chelsea should be able to bring Azpilicueta back to the first team patiently and without haste.
Wesley Fofana
Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana missed the weekend's defeat to Villa after suffering fatigue ahead of the international break. The injury is not considered serious but Saltor confirmed the injury situation remains the same as before the weekend, hinting that Fofana may not feature in the match against Liverpool.
Thiago Silva
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva picked up a knee injury in the defeat to Tottenham last month.
The Brazilian has been sidelined by injury since then and there is no exact date on when he will return, although it was initially announced to be around six weeks.
If that happens, then Silva will face a huge challenge to be in time to face Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Armando Broja
Chelsea striker Armando Broja suffered a serious knee injury in December and will be sidelined for the rest of the season. Broja ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa, then required surgery.
The striker was photographed at Chelsea's training center in Cobham, although it was mostly gym.
