Alan Shearer has criticized Chelsea's "stupid" transfer policy after the west London club sacked head coach Graham Potter on Sunday.

The Blues decided to part ways with Potter - who arrived at Stamford Bridge in September - after winning just three of 13 top-flight games in 2023.

This disastrous form has seen them drop to 11th in the Premier League table despite the club spending more than £600m on 18 players since the summer.

Chelsea's massive outlay follows the arrival of co-owner Todd Boehly, who replaces former owner Roman Abramovich ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

During the January transfer window, Chelsea broke the British transfer record to bring in Argentinian World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez for £106.8m. Premier League legend Shearer said on game day 2:

'Who on earth goes to a football club, pays over £20m to his manager and staff, puts him on a five or six year contract, with a salary of £10m a year, brings give them some ridiculous player with stupid money that was used... and fired seven months later?

"That can only happen in football... Anyone with a football mind will tell you that signing many players won't work."

Chelsea are continuing to splurge despite Potter's sacking and have just agreed a £20m deal in principle to sign 15-year-old Kendry Paez.

The Independiente del Valle midfielder is considered one of the best young talents in South America and will be able to join the Blues at the age of 18.

Paez has been followed by Manchester United, Manchester City and Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, while Real Madrid has also previously been linked with him.

Man City are advised to consider replacing Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal ace Kieran Tierney (left) has struggled to find opportunities this season.

Arsenal ace Kieran Tierney (left) has struggled to find opportunities this season.

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes Manchester City should consider a move to Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney if they plan to sign a new left-back this summer.

Nathan Ake, despite spending most of his career at centre-back, has established himself as City's number one left-back this season, especially due to Joao Cancelo's surprise move to Bayern Munich in January. Sergio Gomez is seen as the club's alternative in the position but many supporters believe they need to strengthen the area this summer.

The Blues, according to other reports, have expressed an interest in Chelsea and England player Ben Chilwell, but it remains to be seen what happens with this ongoing rumor. If not, former Red Devils ace Cole believes Arsenal's Tierney ace will be an alternative for Pep Guardiola to overturn the rule.

Cole, speaking with King Casino Bonus, said:

"I like Kieran Tierney, he has some injury problems but he's talented. If Arsenal are willing to sell him, he won't have to struggle with options." "If Manchester City is for him, I can see it in action, but he will also compete with Ben Chilwell, who is also linked with City. Tierney will want to play, and if he doesn't continue the competition. fighting, he will be looking to go elsewhere this summer."

Tierney has found hard-to-find opportunities at the Emirates Stadium this season, with the majority of his appearances coming off the bench. Former Man City striker Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal last summer, has opted for his own left-back position, meaning Tierney has started just four times in the Premier League this season.

Collar continued:

"If you look at Tierney's situation before, you have to wonder what did he actually do wrong? He never let down Arsenal or Mikel Arteta, of course he had a few injuries but He always plays well." "He's a kid with a great attitude. If he sees an opportunity to get more game time, I'm sure he'll bow his head and work for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He chose to leave." and play more."
