When he arrived at PSG in August 2021, Lionel Messi filled Paris, the least pedestrian-friendly capital of any major city in the world, with his welcoming supporters. A crowd in the caravan accompanying them landing from the airport to the city center vibrated with other arts and had rugby as the most traditional sport. However, his amalgamation at Paris Saint Germain caused an uproar that put him off the hook for a while.
Their whistles and disagreements with the fans headed for the Princes' Park match with Messi's most prolific period in a national team shirt. He joined PSG a few months after winning the America's Cup, then won the ante Italia final, the Qatar World Cup and was at the heart of the team's 36-match unbeaten streak under Lionel Scaloni. What a paradox:
Messi's best memories with the national team have more to do with his time at PSG than his long years at Barcelona.
Thanks to this triumphant tour, Argentina fans "forgive" him for not winning anything in the past 16 years with the national team. He came to be worshipped. Now, the PSG fans themselves do not "forgive" him because his contribution to the team is not enough to win the Champions League for the second consecutive season, causing the Qatari club to lose sleep. Winning Ligue 1, last year and certainly now, doesn't make up for it. So they whistle him, they ignore him, they create a context for Messi to seriously reconsider whether it's worth extending his contract which expires on June 30.
The outlook for his future is uncertain. And also the heated debate in the media. Which side do the former French players take, radicalizing their views? Jérôme Rothen, passed by PSG and the French team, is a disaster for Leo, he punishes him every now and then. But there are also voices in favor of Rosario. Most recently was the 1998 world champion, Emmanuel Little:
"When I hear whistles against Messi, it's an insult to football. If I had to advise Messi, I would say 'get out of this club! PSG is not a club' It's a club for the near-retirees, including the 20- Former Arsenal midfielder Arsene Wenger offers a contrast:
"When you see Argentina winning the world, they are a team of warriors who are willing to die, give their blood for Lionel Messi, and we have seen what he has given. They have become world champions. Finally, he specified his responsibilities:
“The problem for PSG is not Messi, not Neymar, but (president) Al-Khelaifi and the quality of the scouts. You have to put players around them who know what it's like to play with those players.
On Sunday, it was a former teammate on Leo's debut in Barcelona, ???Thierry Henry, present at the Parque de los Príncipes, who shouted:
"Messi had to go back to Barcelona for the love of football and because he didn't leave like he should have. It's annoying to hear whistling noises in the Parc des Princes. You can't whistle one of those. the best players in the team. I want to see Lionel Messi finish his career at Barcelona for the love of football."
This Monday, the Team reports that everything leads to the end of the link between the club and Rosario.
