Chelsea legend John Terry has revealed the unique tactic Jose Mourinho used at Stamford Bridge to gain a mental edge over his opponents.

Terry, 42, joined Chelsea at the age of 14 and made more than 700 appearances for the blue shirt, winning 14 trophies in the process and becoming the best defender in history with 41 goals.

During his time at the club, he was twice managed by Jose Mourinho, from 2004 to 2007 and from 2013 to 2015. A special relationship will develop between the two, with Terry insisting The Portuguese tactician is the 'best' manager. he worked on 'by a mile'.

Speaking on Stephen Hendry's Cue Tips, Terry said:

"Oh, he's the best by mile, at everything - from people management, from a coaching standpoint... From day one he was amazing.

"He makes you feel like I'm the best defender in the world. Whether he did it on purpose or not, he told the press that, he told me, he would text me in. evening; he would push me every day to practice."

Terry then talked about the unique tactics Mourinho deployed to give him a mental edge over his opponents.

“When Mourinho arrived, he brought a completely different spirit on the training ground,” added the former England international.

"For home games, we usually get dressed the next evening. So, you know, when you see the players get off the bus, we get out with our stuff to go out for the night. And it will look like:

'You don't mind as long as you win'."

This is not the first time Terry has talked about Mourinho's desire to win at all costs.

Earlier, he revealed that the Portuguese had exploited a rule he was unaware of to gain an advantage over Chelsea's opponents.

"Just to win. He doesn't care about anything else, he does everything to get to the top," Terry told beIN Sports last year, when asked what Mourinho expected of his players. . “I remember the rule was that if we were 1-0 up and the ball was in the box... if two defenders went ahead and both fell to the ground afterwards, you don't have to go over the touchline to play. .

"So for the last 10 or 15 minutes he would put me, Gary Cahill and me and go:

"When the ball gets into the box, make sure you both go down - you bump into each other and you both fall because neither of you can get out."

"We'd never heard of this rule. So the ball came in the last 10 minutes, headed, Gaz went down and I thought 'I'd better go down'. So I fell to the ground and weighted. Tai said 'two people leave the field' I said 'no, that's not the rule, ask the person in line'.

“Mourinho has come a long way with those little things and you talk about small profits and the best coaches find those small profits. Great."
