Hayford Siaw, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), has received recognition for his remarkable contributions to system transformation, partnerships, and progress towards the fulfilment of the SDGs (SDGs).
Reach for Change, a non-profit, presented him with the honour, saying it was in honour of Mr. Siaw's persistent efforts to challenge the existing quo and provide ground-breaking solutions to some of the most urgent social problems facing the nation.
The organization's decade of cooperating for change event, sponsored by the BMW Foundation, included the awarding of the honour of citation.
The first charitable organisation to support Hayford literacy activities in 2012 is Reach for Change, which has its global headquarters in Sweden.
Vision
An extensive nationwide network of public libraries has been established under Mr. Siaw's direction.
His goal was to make great education accessible, encourage lifelong learning, and instill in Ghana's children a love of reading and intellectual curiosity.
By giving marginalised groups the tools they need to succeed, the GhLA under his direction has been able to boost literacy rates, enhance academic achievement, and empower marginalised communities.
Achievements
The GhLA won the title of Library of the Year in 2021 after defeating Croatia and Kenya in the finals of the London International Book Fair Excellence Awards.
The same year, his team was recognised by the UN as one of the most forward-thinking public organisations in the world supporting inclusive technology education.
Mr. Siaw has aggressively promoted partnerships and collaboration within the social entrepreneurial ecosystem in addition to his work with the authority.
He has collaborated with groups like Reach for Change, the European Union, and the Global Fund for Children to assist, mentor, and educate aspirational change-makers in the nation.
He has also played a key role in creating a strong network of social entrepreneurs who are bringing about positive change in their communities. He sits on the boards of various non-profit organisations.
SDGs Mr. Siaw's activities are in line with the goals of SDGs One, 10 and 13, which are dedicated to, respectively, eliminating poverty, decreasing inequality, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Mr. Siaw's contribution to SDG One focuses on empowering people and communities to end the cycle of poverty by encouraging education, literacy, and lifelong learning.
The award from Reach for Change is evidence of Mr. Siaw's commitment to achieving social change in the nation.
