When Babajide Sanwo-Olu was sworn in as the governor of Lagos, he set out to transform the state through his T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which focuses on Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, and Security. Under his health agenda, the administration has invested heavily in upgrading public health facilities to improve access to quality healthcare.

The government's public health policy centers on providing unhindered access to healthcare without financial constraints for residents. This has led to the commissioning of four Mother and Child Centers (MCCs) in Eti-Osa, Igando, Badagry, and Epe. Additionally, new centers have been inaugurated in Ikorodu, Ikotun, and Epe, and hundreds of thousands of Lagosians have been covered under the Health Insurance Scheme. The government has also established several Triage and Oxygen centers.

The state government's efforts have not only been limited to building new health facilities but also to comprehensive renovations of existing ones, including Ebute-Meta and Harvey Road Health Centre, General Hospital, Odan and Isolo, Infectious Disease Centre, Yaba, among others. The government has also set a roadmap for the comprehensive upgrade of infrastructure in state-owned health facilities, with approval given for the construction and equipping of a 1,500-bed Psychiatric Hospital and Rehabilitation Center at Majidun in Ketu Ejinrin.

The government has also constructed a seven-story, 150-bed hospital, the New Massey Children's Hospital in Adeniji Adele, Lagos, the largest in West Africa. The government has also commissioned pediatric eye surgery, adult eye surgery, pediatric surgery, dental surgery, orthopedic surgery, and Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgery through its initiative, with about 1,417 residents successfully undergoing surgery.

Furthermore, the government has constructed a four-story Faculty of Basic Medical and Clinical Sciences Office Block at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), with plans for the renovation and upgrade of some facilities at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). In partnership with the private sector, the government completed and handed over an oxygen plant at the Mainland and Gbagada General Hospitals.

In conclusion, Governor Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated his commitment to the health sector in Lagos by making significant investments in upgrading public health facilities to improve access to quality healthcare. The commissioning of new facilities, comprehensive renovations of existing ones, and the construction of a 1,500-bed Psychiatric Hospital and Rehabilitation Center at Majidun in Ketu Ejinrin are testaments to this commitment. His efforts in the health sector are critical to the overall success of his T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which aims to transform Lagos into a world-class city.
